What is portable appliance testing?

Portable appliance testing pass/fail labels
'Any electrical item which can or is intended to be moved whilst connected to an electrical supply.'
There have been changes to what is considered to be a portable appliance and some confusions surrounding this. It used to be understood that a portable appliance was a hand held piece of equipment which you plug in, however, this has changed and the concept of what is now considered portable has changed. Appliances which may be connected to a spur outlet are now to be tested under portable appliances which would require a suitably competent person to carry out the checks.
